History.
Originally forming in the Anglo Saxon Times, Ipswich is believed to be one of the oldest towns in England. It emerged as the main centre between London and York, for trade to Scandinavia, and for centuries since it has been a successful gateway to Europe.

In 1200 AD, King John awarded Ipswich a Royal charter, and 300 years later was named a King's Port. This meant it was now one of the eleven areas who were able to trade.
