Conveniently located on Old Palace Road, local history can be found at Croydon Palace. The Archbishops of Canterbury once resided in the beautiful red brick, and black and white building which is an astonishing 1000 years old.
From midday visitors can participate in one of the popular tours around the many interesting features such as the Chapel, 15Th Century Great Hall, Norman Undercroft and even visit the very bedroom that Queen Elizabeth I used. Those feeling the need for refreshments will be pleased as free English tea and cake are included.
For fun, laughter and entertainment a short drive with Car Hire Croydon to Dingwall Street will take you to the famous Warehouse Theatre. In May 1977 the theatre opened its doors to its first ever production, but at the time shared its premises with a Caribbean nightclub until 1979. It is then when the Arts council provided a grant which closed the nightclub so the theatre could focus on what it was doing best which is entertainment.
Many celebrities such as French and Saunders, Ben Elton, Lenny Henry and Julian Clary have performed here, and the theatre continues to thrive with productions and acts running daily.
There really is something for everyone whether staying for a day, weekend or even longer other sites such as the award winning Croydon Clock Tower containing cafes, the David Lean Cinema, Library and an impressive three exhibition galleries.
